3 Holiday Decorating Trends to Try This Year

With the holiday season upon us, you and your loved ones are probably ready to deck the halls. This year, why not elevate your traditions with handmade holiday charm, cozy window treatments, and natural decor?

From crafting unique ornaments to upgrading your living room with Hunter Douglas Heritance® Wood Shutters from Packard Paint Decorating Centers, you'll create a festive atmosphere that's both warm and memorable.

Deck the Halls with Handmade Holiday Charm

The holidays are all about enjoying time with those you cherish most and finding joy during the chilliest time of the year. What better way to do both than making homemade holiday decorations with your family and friends? You can schedule an at-home ornament decorating night by candlelight and enjoy quality time while crafting unique holiday decorations that will surely be statement pieces.

A couple of examples to inspire you include:

  • Festive Dried Orange Garlands: Slice oranges thinly, bake them on low until dry, and string them together with twine. Add a few cinnamon sticks or cranberries for a rustic decoration that smells as good as it looks.

  • Mini Button Wreath Ornaments: Thread holiday-colored buttons, like candy apple reds and forest greens, onto a floral wire to form a small circle, twist the ends together, and finish with a bow for a cheerful wreath to hang on the tree.

Create a Cozy Holiday Glow With Custom Wood Shutters

When enjoying the holidays, most families gather in the living room for conversation by the fireplace, playing board games, gift exchanges, holiday movie nights, or simply enjoying hot chocolate while admiring the twinkling lights on the tree. It's also the perfect time to upgrade to cozy window treatments to amplify the festive atmosphere.

For example, warm wood shutters, such as the Hunter Douglas Heritance® Wood Shutters, provide classic holiday charm while offering privacy and warmth. Place battery-operated holiday candles behind your new custom shutters for an extra touch of seasonal magic. They create a welcoming glow for guests and spread holiday cheer to anyone passing by your home, making the season even more special.

Enjoy the Simple Beauty of Natural and Sustainable Decor

Holiday decorating trends are shifting toward a more natural design, and justifiably so! The era of large, plastic decorations is fading, and eco-friendly options that are not only kinder to the planet are in. If you'd like to try this decorating trend, consider spending time with family or friends foraging for your own!

This activity is an excellent way to connect with loved ones and nature. Look for pinecones, boughs of holly, or evergreen branches, which are commonly found in our Pennsylvania forests and parks. They make the most beautiful centerpieces during holiday dinners.
